Find your peace and quiet in the Northwoods.

Welcome to Kimball Lake Resort

We are a four-cabin housekeeping resort located on a small chain of peaceful lakes in a beautiful wooded area near Minong, WI, in the northwest corner of Washburn County. We are only 30 miles from the prime hubs of Spooner, Hayward, and the Chequamegon National Forest in northwestern Wisconsin, yet far enough off the beaten path to provide guests with a quiet, relaxing vacation away from the more crowded and busier tourist destinations.

Kimball Lake Resort History

Kimball Lake Resort was built by Walter and Anna Koch from the Chicago area in the late 1930s. The Kochs (who also used the spelling Cook) began the resort operation on the west shore of Lower Kimball Lake with a small home and three cabins. A fourth rental cabin was built in the early 1940’s.

The resort has been in continuous family-owned operation since then, going through six ownership changes after the Kochs. Don and Betty Lake purchased the business in 1961 and sold to Marvin and Irene Ulm from Indiana in 1978. Jack and Marge Lewis of Streator, IL bought the property in 1987 and eventually sold to Pete and Ann Miller from Wisconsin in 2000. After successfully running the business for 21 years, the Millers sold the resort to long-time guests Rick and Kate Ritter from Illinois in 2021.

In an era when traditional family resorts are slowly disappearing in northern Wisconsin, Kimball Lake Resort is one of the few remaining in full operation in the Minong area. Updates for comfort and convenience have been made to the four 70-year-old lakeshore cabins but the vintage accommodations and peaceful surroundings remain familiar to the many families who have been making summer vacations a habit here through two or three generations.
